Sadau Asom Gramya Puthibharal Santha came into being on 27th January, 1985 in a public meeting held at the District Library Auditorium, Nagaon. Representatives of village libraries and Social Workers of almost every nock and corner of Assam had attended the meeting. This meeting had decided to constitute a non-political, non-communal state level voluntary organization for the greater interest of village library as well as allround development of downtrodden people of the society through various social activities. Accordingly a state level executive committee was formed by the general meeting. Sri Putul Ch. Bora, President and Sri Balladev Sarmah, General Secretary was selected by the meeting . The Nagaon Zilla Puthibharal Santha which was established in 1982 had taken initiative for establishing Sadau Asom Gramya Puthibharal Santha. Now the Santha has passed 31 years successfully through various popular and welfare activities. It is mentioned that the Santha had celebrated Silver Jubilee during the year 2009-10 also.
ENROLLMENT OF MEMBERS
As per constitution of the Santha eight categories of Members are enrolled which are classified as Patron, Hon'ble members, Donor members, Life member, Zilla Santha member, Mahkuma member, Village library member, Reading member by the organization till date. The process of enrolling the members are continuing.
THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND ITS DURATION
The tenure of executive committee members is for three years as per decision during the Annual conference meet of the Santha held at Nagaon (Assam) during 2014. The executive committee have control over the Santha's works and if necessary sub committee are also form to Guide the Santha's developmental activities. Sri Pratap Hazarika and Sri Balladev Sarmah are the President and Secretary of the Santha respectively working till date.
The Santha is Registered under the Societies Registration Act. 1860, Regd. No. 1260 of 1985-86, dated 21-10-1986 and registered under the F.C.R.A./1976, section No. - 6(A) Government of India with the Registration No. 020820030, dated 06-08-1986 and also Registered under section 12 A of the Income-Tax Act 1961. Moreover Santha is also Registered as service provider under Domestic Violence Act 2005, No. DSW (G)/132/2007, dated 22/07/2008 and under the persons with disability Act 1995 No. 86, dated 21.11.2008 under Department of Social Welfare Govt. of Assam and also registered under Food & Civil supplies and Consumer Affairs as co-ordinating agency vide No. FSA.196/2003/530, dtd- 18th March, 2010, Certificate of registration under JJ (care and protection of children) Act. 2000 (No. DSW(G)149/2007/10, dtd- 16th July/2007), Registration under Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Govt. of Assam under the Nodal organization Registration No. FSA.196/2003/529, dtd- 18th March, 2010 and registration under the same department as coordinating agency for the implementation of the scheme, registration No. FSA.196/2003/530, dtd- 18th March, 2010
Santha's Block & Flag
To characterize the objectives of the Santha a logo has been prepared having a book with lamp in the middle surrounded by the map of Assam. White silk cloth of size 3' x 1 1/2' with the logo in the middle is the standard flag of the Santha.
